So here I sit, taking in the mellow evening vibes on the terrace of Andrea's house, a little guest house in the latest picture perfect location we have found ourselves in.
When planning to visit postojna caves in the south west of slovenia we had a change of heart and headed north to the activity capital of Slovenia, a town called bled.
An hour on the bus from Ljubljana, We hopped off to find ourselves in a quaint little town no larger than a mile in every direction, and proceeded to find our hostel, which turned out to be a family home; our room a beautiful en suite on the bottom floor - luxury by our standards, accentuated by some of the places we have slept during this trip!
Our host, an exceedingly friendly one-handed lady gave us a Useful presentation of the local area and point of interest and off we went to explore the latest place.
Admittedly up until this point I had one eye on Croatia, but after 3 minutes walk from the house both eyes very soon became transfixed on the beauty that came into view.
To say this place bears resemblance to Switzerland would be harsh, because in fact it would be far more apt to say that Switzerland is a tone below the magnificent, unspoilt beauty of Bled.
Beset on all sides by steep densely forrested mountains is the most beautiful emerald-green lake imaginable, reflecting the spires of the churches that seem to transcend from the woodland in a somewhat mystical fashion. There is a powerful, signatory castle which overlooks the whole scene; perched on the edge of a 100m slab of rock which dwarves the town below.
The scenery was undeniably exquisite; as in Switzerland, but the friendliness of the locals and the low price/high quality cuisine makes it all the easier to enjoy the backdrop from the patio of your chosen eatery.
And for heavens sake, if you don't like the place go to the casino and try the original recipe cream cakes. You could be in Kabul and you'd think you were in heaven.
